A different way of looking

You know how to admire them. What if you learned to understand them?

Two gemstones that look almost identical to the naked eye can have very different natures, treatments and values. Gemmology teaches you to look beyond appearances using a structured method.

01

Observe

Colour, transparency, lustre, cut and the first visible clues.

02

Measure

Gather useful data with the instruments appropriate to the session.

03

Explore

Discover inclusions, internal structures and microscopic characteristics.

04

Interpret

Compare the results and learn to reach a reasoned conclusion.

A practical, progressive session

90 minutes to understand, then practise

Each session consists of one hour of theory and thirty minutes of guided practice.

01

The day’s topic

The tutor presents the properties, family or question being studied.

02

Observation

Immediately apply the criteria covered in the theory to real gemstones.

03

The instruments

Choose the relevant tools and learn to interpret their results.

04

The conclusion

The clues are compared to build a reasoned conclusion and understand its limitations.

Two distance-learning options, depending on whether you can come to Paris for practical work

Theory can be followed remotely. Your chosen package then determines whether practical work is grouped into in-person sessions or excluded from the programme.

Online theory + practical work in Paris

€750 incl. tax
  • Theory followed remotely
  • Two full days of in-person practical work
  • Days organised midway through or at the end of the course
  • Handling gemstones and instruments included

Theory-only programme

€375 incl. tax
  • All theoretical content followed remotely
  • No travel required
  • The two practical days are not included
  • Supervised use of the instruments is not included

The €375 theory programme does not provide the same practical experience as the in-person or hybrid formats. This difference is clearly stated so that everyone can make an informed choice.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before starting

What is the difference between the two formats?

Individual classes let you freely choose the topics that interest you, at €37 incl. tax per session. The complete programme follows a 15-week progression and includes 30 sessions for €750 incl. tax.

Why does the complete programme cost €25 per session?

The €750 fee covers all 30 sessions in the programme, equivalent to €25 incl. tax per class. Individual classes remain €37 incl. tax because they offer complete flexibility without a long-term commitment.

How are the groups organised?

Two groups are available each week: Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday, always from 8 pm to 9.30 pm. Each group attends two sessions a week.

How can I find out the upcoming individual class topics?

Upcoming topics are announced in advance on Instagram and WhatsApp. You can ask to receive these announcements directly through the form.

What does each session include?

Each class lasts 1 hour 30 minutes: one hour of theory followed by thirty minutes of guided practice. The necessary gemstones, instruments and materials are provided.

Can I take the course remotely?

Yes. The hybrid format lets you follow the theory remotely, then complete the practical work over two full days in Paris, midway through or at the end of the course. The price is €750 incl. tax.

What does the €375 distance-learning package include?

It includes theory only. The two practical days and supervised use of the instruments are not included, as this package is intended for people who cannot travel.

Is the first session really free?

Yes. It lets you discover the method before choosing an individual class or the complete programme. It is available Monday to Friday, by reservation and subject to availability.

Can the classes be taken in English?

Yes. Dedicated sessions are taught entirely in English. Simply select English in the form to receive the corresponding time slots.

Are the classes open to children?

Yes. Adapted classes are available from age 8, on Wednesday afternoons from 2.30 pm to 4 pm.

Will I learn to certify a gemstone?

You will learn a method of practical observation and identification. The course does not replace advanced analyses or reports issued by an equipped laboratory.
